NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track and field team is currently first with 58 points through five events at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships held on the Southern campus at Jesse Dow Field. The Owls' were led by freshman Nyoshee Lowry (Danbury, Conn.) who won the long jump with a distance of 5.63 meters. Aubrey Dowding (Warwick, R.I.) reached a NCAA Division II provisional mark on her way to winning the javelin event with a toss of 40.52 meters. She also managed sixth with a distance of 42.15 meters in the hammer throw.

Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.) is the top qualifier in the 100 meter dash along with Rachel Van Gilder (Enfield, Conn.) in eighth with times of 12.29 and 12.82 with the finals to be held tomorrow.

Sarah Vaughan (Hamden, Conn.) paced a fourth place time in the 10,000-meters after leading much of the race and finished with a time of 40:27.55.


Kimberly Johnson (Lisbon, Conn.) finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters. She also managed sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.33.

Samantha Spindel (Brewster, N.Y.) led a total of four Owls in the top eight of the hammer throw with her NCAA Division II provisional mark of 54.52 to finish second. Julianna Williamson (Milford, Conn.) was fourth with a toss of 46.33 meters followed by Elizabeth Bashir (Colchester, Conn.) in fifth with a mark of 44.61 meter.

Ourania Bletsas (Easton, Conn.) and Michelle Grecni (Danbury, Conn.) were fourth and sixth in the javelin with marks of 32.67 and 32.33 meters.

The Owls will be back in action tomorrow for the final day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
