Bell, Johnson, Grecni Lead Owls during Yale Springtime Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.),
Kimberly Johnson (Lisbon, Conn.) and
Michelle Grecni (Danbury, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track and field team led the Owls at the Yale Springtime Invitational held today in New Haven on the campus of Yale University. Bell was first in both events she competed in with times of 11.99 in the 100 meters and 24.85 in the 200 meters. Johnson cleared a height of 1.60 meters in the high jump, managed a second place time of 15.42 in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters. Grecni was first in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50 meters.
The 4 x 100 meter relay team of
Raysa Florentino (Groton, Conn.),
Nyoshee Lowry (Danbury, Conn.),
Rachel Van Gilder (Enfield, Conn.), and Bell ran a second place time of 48.83. A similar team of Florentino, Lowry,
Brittany Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.), and
Titilayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.) ran a time of 4:09.64 in the 4 x 400 meter relays.
Vanriel claimed the third fastest time in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.30.
Elizabeth Bashir (Colchester, Conn.) claimed fourth place with a distance of 12.79 meters in the shot put.
Ourania Bletsas (Easton, Conn.) was fourth in the javelin with a toss of 31.89 meters.
Kiara Bonilla (Bristol, Conn.) was fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:14.71.
Niemczyk also competed in the pole vault and managed fifth with a height cleared of 2.90 meters and tied with
Meghan Nicolletta (East Hampton, Conn.).
Gilder finished seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 26.25.
Marveline Carter (Bloomfield, Conn.) was eighth with a time of 16.08.
Niemczyk was seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.85.
The Owls will be back in action this upcoming weekend to defend their streak of conference championships at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships to be held on the Southern campus on May 4-5.
