Connor Coleman reached a NCAA Division II auto invite to the national championship with a third place victory today at the UConn Decathlon Invitational.

STORRS, Conn. – Connor Coleman (Gunnisod, Colo.) of the Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team led the Owls into the final day of the UConn Decathlon Invitational held today in Storrs, Conn. Coleman finished third overall with 7030 points to reach a NCAA Division II auto invite followed by Nick Lebron (Newington, Conn.) in fourth with 6913 points.

With today's finish, Coleman ranked second in all of Division II for the decathlon and reached an auto invitation to the NCAA Division II National Championships to be held in Pueblo, Colo. on May 24-26. He also reached NCAA Division II provisional marks in both the javelin and the 110 meter hurdles to which he is ranked 15th and 25th, respectively. Joining their fellow teammate, Lebron and Escaravage both reached NCAA Division II provisional marks and are ranked sixth and 17th in the nation.

After day one, Lebron was third and Coleman was sixth with both athletes looking to make a run at the overall winner from UConn, Jake Waruch. Coleman started off day two of the competition with a victory in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.63 going momentum into the discus throw with a mark of 40 meters even to claim third. Coleman also finished first in the javelin with a toss of 60.56 meters to solidify a third place finish overall.

Also competing for the Owls, Justin Escaravage (Brookfield, Conn.) finished ninth with 6401 points followed by Jason Polakowski (Essex Jct., Vt.) in 11th with 5709 points.

The Owls will be back in action at the Metropolitan Championships to be held in New Brunswick, N.J. on April 13-14.
