STORRS, Conn. – Members of the Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track 4 x 400 meter relay team claimed the top spot at the UConn Spring Invitational today in Storrs, Conn. The team ran a time of 3:59.09 and consisted of Raysa Florentino (Gronton, Conn.), Nyoshee Lowry (Danbury, Conn.), Brittany Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) and Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.). Kimberly Johnson (Lisbon, Conn.) finished first in the high jump clearing a height of 1.63 meters.

Freshman Marveline Carter (Bloomfield, Conn.) ran a time of 16:08 in the 100 meter hurdles to claim fourth place.

Titilayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.) claimed fifth place overall in the 800 meters among a field filled in a number of division one schools including UConn, Bryant, and Sacred Heart. She ran a time of 2:20.21.

Freshman Sarah Vaughan (Hamden, Conn.) claimed ninth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:14.12 leading three of her fellow teammates with Nicole Strauss (Shelton, Conn.) in 20th, Kiara Bonilla (Bristol, Conn.) in 23rd and Amanda Arcand (Vernon, Conn.) in 24th.

Elizabeth Bashir (Colchester, Conn.)and Aubrey Dowding (Warwick, R.I.) claimed eighth and 10th place in the shot put with heaves of 11.63 and 10.69 meters. Bashir also claimed sixth place in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.52 meters, Dowding finished fourth in the javelin throw with a throw of 37.58 meters. Johnson and Michelle Grecni (Danbury, Conn.) managed eighth and ninth place in the javelin with a distance of 26.42 and 25.13 meters, respectively.

Samantha Spindel (Brewster, N.Y.) claimed second in the hammer toss at the Army Dick Shea Open held today in West Point, N.Y. She managed a heave of 53.15 meters followed by her teammate, Julianna Williamson (Milford, Conn.) in fifth with a toss of 47.43 meters.

The Owls also competed at the Army Dick Shea Open in Westpoint, N.Y. this afternoon. Check back as full meet results become available.
