Men’s Track Collects 13 All-American Honors; Third at NCAA Division II National Championship
NCAA Championships Meet Results
MANKATO, Minn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's indoor track and field team claimed the programs best ever top-3 finish at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships with an overall team score of 39 in third. The meet was held on the Minnesota State campus in Mankato, Minn. The Owls managed a total of 13 All-Americans and a NCAA Champion,
Nick Lebron (Newington, Conn.), in the heptathlon.
The Owls are currently tied for the programs single season record for 13 All-Americans combined for both indoor and outdoor set back in 1985 with the outdoor season to start on April 6-7.
Lebron finished first in the heptathlon with a total of 5225 points and becomes the 19th NCAA Championship for the Owls' indoor track and field team since Dan Bourque won both the 35-pound weight and hammer throw titles during the 1998 season. He is also the 73rd individual NCAA title recipient in the program's history.
Connor Coleman (Gunnisod, Colo.) finished third in the heptathlon event with 5087 points.
Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.) finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.61. This is his second straight top-8 in the 800 meters including a fifth place finish at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in the 2011 season.
Brian Robbins (Bristol, Conn.) came into the championships with the sixth best time in the 800 meters and claimed eighth place with a time of 1:54.42.
Josh Perry (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished seventh in the one mile event. His time was 4:12.84. This is his first All-American performance in the one mile run.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team consisting of
Stenson Jean-Baptiste (Stratford, Conn.),
Twayne Forth (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Lumax, and
Logan Sharpe (Esperance, N.Y.) claimed third by a full second off the lead with a time of 3:15.25. This team returned three student athletes from the previous seasons top-8 finish at the indoor championships in the 2010-11 campaign.
