Titilayo Vanriel holds the second best time in the 800 meter event with her mark today at the Great Dane Classic.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Titilayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.) and Brittany Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women's indoor track and field managed NCAA Division II provisional marks in their respective events en route to a bright showing for the Owls at the Great Dane Classic held today on the University of Albany campus in New York, N.Y.

Vanriel finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.41 and holds the second best time in the nation for the current indoor season, while Niemczyk claimed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.70.

Raysa Florentino (Groton, Conn.) finished 14th in the 500 meters with a time of 1:18.56.

Elizabeth Bashir (Colchester, Conn.) managed ninth in the shot put with a heave of 12.56 meters, while Aubrey Dowding (Warwick, R.I.) was 13th with toss of 12.04 meters. Bashir also competed in the weight toss and finished in 18th place with a toss of 13.68 meters.

Brittany Brown (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) competed in two events at the meet. She was ninth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.79 and 13th in long jump with a leap of 5.44 meters. She is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the long jump and 12th in the 60 hurdles.

Freshman Michelle Grecni (Danbury, Conn.)was 14th in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.45 meters.

Samantha Spindel (Brewster, N.Y.) claimed ninth place honors with a toss of15.28 meters in weight throw.

The Owls will be back in action at the Metropolitan Championships in Manhattan, N.Y. to be held on both Jan. 26th and 27th.
