Austin Mizzell and Brittany Brown have been named the Comcast/SCSU Athletes of the Month for December.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Brittany Brown (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) of the women's indoor track and field team and senior Austin Mizzell (Bristol, Conn.) of the men's swimming and diving team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University/Comcast Athletes of the Month for December.

Brown stormed out of the gates to open the 2011-12 season during the month of December. She currently ranks among the Division II leaders in four separate events – high jump, pentathlon, long jump and 60 meter high hurdles. She was selected as the Northeast-10 Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 6 after posting NCAA provisional qualifying marks in both the long jump and 60 meter hurdles at the Yale Season Opener. Brown was also tabbed to the league's weekly honor roll on Dec. 13 after registering a new school record in the pentathlon. In all, Brown has recorded NCAA provisional marks in all four events this year.

Mizzell helped lead the Owls to a first-place team finish at the Bentley Invitational during the squad's only competition of the month. He finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:02.43), 100 breaststroke (1:00.18) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:56.04). For his efforts, he was named the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 6.

For the fourth consecutive year, Comcast is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Month' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Month' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
