STORRS, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's indoor track and field team starts off the first meet in 2012 with a first place finish against Central Connecticut held on the UConn Campus in Storrs, Conn. The Owls managed numerous first place finishes on the day.

Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.) managed a first place finish in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.31 seconds, while sophomore Raysa Florentino (Groton, Conn.) managed first place with a time of 1:01.2 in the 400 meter dash.

Brittany Brown (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) finished first with a time of 8.25 in the 55 meter hurdles and first in the high jump with a height cleared of 1.76 meters. She also claimed first in the long jump with a leap of 5.75 meters. Brown's mark in the high jump was a new school record. Her tally in the long jump also vaulted her atop the Division II leaderboard for this year. She also had NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the 55 hurdles and the high jump. Brown also moved to the No. 2 spot nationally in the high jump this year.

Titilayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.) claimed first in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:38.49.

Kimberly Johnson (Lisbon, Conn.) claimed first in the pole vault with a vault of 3.66 meters. Her figure was again a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Freshman Elizabeth Bashir (Colchester, Conn.) was first in the shot put event with a heave of 12.39 meters.

Samantha Spindel (Brewster, N.Y.) was first in the weight throw with a toss of 15.43 meters.

The Owls managed a time of 6:08.37 in the 2,200 meter spring medley.

The Owls will be back in action next weekend for the Yale Season Opener in New Haven, Conn. On Jan. 14th with the first event to start at 9 am.
