Samantha Spindel finished first in the hammer throw at day one of the Metropolitan Championships.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Samantha Spindel of the Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track and field team claimed first place honors in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.82 meters on day one of the Metropolitan Championships in New Brunswick , N.J. today.

A day full of personal bests for the Owls, Kiara Bonilla (Bristol, Conn.) finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a personal best of 12:07, while Nicole Strauss ran a time of 18:48 in the 5,000 meter run, and Ourania Blestas (Easton, Conn.) had a personal best finish of fourth in the javelin.

The Owls will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Metropolitan Championships.
