Sarah Hill helped the 4x400 team break a school record and finish second at New England Championship.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's indoor track and field team finished third overall at the New England Championship held this weekend. This is the Owls best finish ever at this meet for an indoor season.

The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Sarah Hill (Rockville, Conn.), Brittany Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.), Shaina Barr (Manchester, Conn.), and freshman Daira Veloz finished second overall while breaking a school record with a time of 3:48.66. With this time, the team is the fifth fastest 4x400 relay team in the country.

Brittany Brown (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) took seventh in the high jump with a height of five feet, five inches. Brown claimed a fifth place finish the 60 meter hurdles with a tme of 8.93.

The distance medley team consisting of Jaclyn Sullivan (Lisbon, Conn.), Niemczyk, Titilayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.) and Alasia Griebel (Bristol, Conn.) finished second with a time of 11:51.52.

Vanriel took eighth in the 800 meters and claimed the 13th fastest time in the nation with a time of 2:13.67.

Courtni Walker (Uniondale, N.Y.) finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 10.75 inches.

Kimberly Johnson (Lisbon, Conn.) finished third in the pole vault by beating a season best mark of 11 feet, 11.75 inches set at the Fordham/Manhattan Tri-Meet with a vault of 12 feet, 6.25 inches.

Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.) and Walker claimed second and third place in the 60 meter dash with times of 7.78 and 7.81, respectively. Both Bell and Walker competed in the 200 meter dash finishing seventh and eighth with times of 24.98 and 25.15, respectively.

Barr finished 12th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.00.

Raysa Florentino (Groton, Conn.) finished outside the top eight by two-hundredths of a second in ninth place with a time of 1:16.97.

All student athletes that finished inside the top eight of their respective event receive All-New England honors.

The Owls will be back in action at the IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass. Mar. 5-6. with a scheduled start time of 12 p.m.
