Weekend League Meet Snap Recaps

Championship Season may be a loose term during the 2020 Pandemic Fall Season, but some sections are making due with what they have. Two in particular, took this weekend to settle all local business, ahead of a Sectional Tournament down the line in November. Section 6 (Buffalo area) and the Catholic HS League both took their attempts at normalcy, and came away with some of the best action of the Season.

Check out all the recaps below, and find the full results on our Results Board.

ECIC Championships

D1

The closest boys team race of the day saw Clarence overcome Lancaster by 3 pts., while Lancaster did get the individual win in 16:40.7 by Zach Winnicki. Not to be outdone, the Girls Race was even closer, with Clarence pulling out the win on a 6th-Woman tie-breaker over Orchard Park, as Clarence's 6th was 14th, seven spots ahead of OP. Orchard Park freshman Noel Barlette took the overall win.

D2

Both of the fastest times of the day came from the D2 Races, as John Lenz (Amherst) won in 16:19.8, while Mallory Grubb (Amherst) matched with a win in 18:54.5. However, while the Amherst Boys came away with the clear win, the Amherst girls were toppled by another 6-Woman tie-breaker, losing out to Hamburg by a matter of three places.

D3

This division was all East Aurora, as they swept both the Team and Individual titles. Junior Megan McLaughlin and fellow Junior Nolan Axford will both be back to defend their titles next year.

D4

Alden Boys pull a perfect score of 15, led by Kyle Urban at 17:05.9, while Hannah Goetz (Springville) takes home the win individually for the Girls,. However, Eden captured the team title with 23 points.

Catholic High School Athletic Association Championships

NYCHSAA

A nail-biter here, as Fordham Prep edges out Xavier for the title, led by Individual winner Myles Hogan, the only athlete under 13mins. However, Xavier would make the one-point reversal in the NY/BQ merge, setting up for an interesting Intersectional Race upcoming. Notre Dame of Staten Island took home the team title with a strong finish 1 thru 4, but it was Columbia University-bound Brigid McCabe (Notre Dame Manhattan) who took home the fastest time of the day, the only athlete under 16mins.

BQCHSAA

Archbishop Molloy girls came away with the win here, as well as taking the NY/BQ merge to boot. Grace Hughes (St. Francis Prep) grabbed the overall win here in 17:05.7. The St. Francis Prep boys met their female winner with a team title on their end, as Jordan Leon helps prep sweep the individual titles.

NSCHSAA

Out on the island, Chaminade put four in the top ten to help win the Boys Team Title, although it was Robert Doherty (Saint Anthony's) who was fastest of them all, running 13:27.4. For the Girls, Saint Anthony's managed to hold off St. John The Baptist by four points to win, although Baptist had the overall winner in Sabrina Spezia.

MMHSAA

Up in Buffalo, Mary Kate Hartigan (Nardin Academy) came away with the title in the Girls Race, while Sacred Heart grabbed the team title. On the boys side, it was Henry Smith (Cardinal O'Hara) winning at 18:05, with St. Francis taking the team title.

Niagara Championships

Frontier

Lockport edges Kenmore West by one point for the win, with Justin Pavan (Lewiston-Porter) taking the overall win. West got their revenge on the Girls side, winning despite Lockport taking the first three finishers.

Orleans

Newfane sweeps both the Boys and Girls Team titles, with Kylie Bowman leading the girls race overall.

CCAA Championships

Only two points separated the top two boys teams, with Southwestern finding the edge over Allegany-Limestone. Senior Drew Carlson (Jamestown) led the way with his 17:08.1 finishing performance.  Not so close on the Girls Side, as Maple Grove clinches the win with 32 points total. However, sophomore Angelina Napoleon (Allegany-Limestone) managed to bring home the individual win.
