Kick of The Week: North Carolina 3200m State Title Showdown

The boys 3200m came down to a dead even sprint to the finish in the last lap at the NCHSAA 1A/2A Indoor State Championship meet this past weekend.

On the bell lap, Surry Central's (NC) Erick Ramirez-Ramos and Atkins High Schools (NC) Ben Armentrout came down the straightaway stride for stride. Ramirez-Ramos on the outside looked like he might make the pass heading into the final lap but Armentrout held him off. Down the backstretch, Armentrout kept his lead with Ramirez-Ramos right on his heels.

In the final home stretch, Ramirez-Ramos kicked it into another gear to pass Armentrout just before the finish to take the state title. The pair would run 9:31.89 and  9:32.60 respectively. They closed the last half of the race in approximately 4:35.
