Cormier, Wiser Take New England Titles

Wiser Leads CT Girls

Pomperaug sophomore Kate Wiser simply dominated the competition.  She was up in the front of the pack at the very beginning until the mile mark when she took over for good.  She came out of the woods about the 4000m mark with a 23 second lead which she extended to a 38 second win over New Hampshire Meet of Champions winner, freshman Sophia Reynolds of Merrimack Valley.  Wiser finished in 18:04 which was 15 seconds slower than she ran at the Manchester Invitational she won back in late September.

Eight other Connecticut girls finished in the top 25 to earn All New England.   The entire top ten finishers are returning next year and Connecticut had three other girls in that elite category.  Class LL champions
Mari Noble, a sophomore from Greenwich High School took 4th in 18:51.60 with SWC runner up Claire Daniels, the New Milford freshman in 7th in 18:57.30.  Junior Kathryn Rodrigues of Wolcott was a place behind in 19:04.30 to earn her first New England medal.

Immaculate's Angela Saidman tied her highest finish at New Englands with a  16th place finish.  Kate Hedlund of Manchester was 18th after finishing one place out of the medals last year and  Danbury's Lauren Moore was a place behind in 19th. The Ridgefield duo of Gabriella Viggiano was 21st with her teammate Tess Pisanelli taking the last All New England spot in 25th.

Immaculate lost the State Open on a 6th man tie breaker to cross town rival Danbury.  They got their revenge on their sisters in running and accepted the 3rd place trophy with Danbury 21 points behind in 5th.  Ridgefield and Trumbull took the next two spots to give Connecticut four teams in the top seven.  Glastonbury rounded out the in state contingency with a 19th place finish.
