Heather Stephens leads the way

Despite losing two of its top five runners, the Ridgefield High girls cross country team should still be among the favorites for post-season titles this fall.

That’s what happens when you’ve got a dynasty going.

The Tigers won their fourth consecutive FCIAC championship last fall and then finished first at the Class LL state meet before placing fourth at the State Open. The LL championship was Ridgefield’s third class title in the past four years.

This fall, Ridgefield returns senior Heather Stephens, the two-time defending FCIAC champ. Stephens was second at the Class LL, State Open and New England regional meets.

“Heather has had quite a career,” said Ridgefield head coach Sandy Hoddinott. “I know she wants to go out with a big senior year.”

Also back is classmate Melissa Lloyd-Williams, who finished fourth at FCIACs, 16th in Class LL and 40th at the Open.
