Jack Long Invite highlights

Glastonbury's Randy Neish and Shelton's Samantha-Jo Hartmeyer manufactured some national-caliber performances at the Jack Long Track & Field Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.

Neish, who recently placed second in the mile run at the RI Classic (see above photo), easily captured the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 35.77 seconds. He was nearly eight seconds ahead of his closest pursuer, Andrew Damon-Smith of Bristol Central (2:43.66).

Hartmeyer had an equally impressive performance in the girls' 600m where she was timed in 1:39.57. Finishing second was Annika Anderson of Farmington at 1:46.32.

In other events, Manchester's Pat Levitt broke the tape in the 300m dash with a time of 38.06. Seymour's Austin Fraser was the first across the line in the 600m with a 1:26.71 clocking.

Elizabeth Lodge of Manchester won a tight competition in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches. Placing second was Nonnewaug's Mae Matthews, also at 5-2.
