Track and field coach Matt Shea can still see the looks of disappointment on the competition when he accompanied Southington shot-putter Cherraine Davis to the New England Open last spring.
Davis threw over 45 feet on her first attempt. The rest of the girls knew right then and there they were playing for second place.
As a Southington High School junior and again as a senior, Davis won every Connecticut shot-put championship she could win, indoor in the winter and outdoor in the spring.
