Women's Track and Field finished runner-up at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track and field team finished runner-up at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships held on the Southern campus at Jesse Dow Field. The Owls' were within a taste of the lead going into the final event the 4 x 400 meter relay behind 179-172 to UMass-Lowell. The Owls needed to finish within the top-2 and have UMass finish outside of top-5, but the Owls were unable to capitalize finishing in a close second with 180 points. The Owls were led by a strong showing from one of their team captains, Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.), who was named the Most Outstanding Female Athlete at the Northeast-10 Championships with a claim to both the 100 and 200 meter titles and a runner-up finish in both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relays.

Bell broke the meet record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.91and reached a NCAA Division II provisional mark. She finished first in the 200 meters with a time of 24.43 and reached another NCAA provisional mark.

Michelle Grecni (Danbury, Conn.) broke the meet record in the pole vault with a NCAA provisional mark of 3.62 meters. Brittany Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) claimed fourth for the Owls with a vault of 2.90 meters.

Nyoshee Lowry (Danbury, Conn.) won the long jump with a distance of 5.63 meters.



Aubrey Dowding (Warwick, R.I.) won the javelin throw with a mark of 40.52 meters followed by her teammates Ourania Blestas (Easton, Conn.) and Grecni in fourth (32.67m) and sixth (27.57m).

Samantha Spindel (Brewster, N.Y.) finished second in the discus throw with a mark of 41.73 meters.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Marveline Carter (Bloomfield, Conn.), Lowry, Rachel Van Gilder (Enfield, Conn.), and Bell finished second with a time of 48.16. A similar team composition in the 4 x 400 meter relay took second with a time of 3:55.53 and the team consisted of Van Gilder, Lowry, Bell, and Niemczyk. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Kiara Bonilla (Bristol, Conn.), Jaclyn Sullivan (Lisbon, Conn.), Chloe Ashcroft (Shelton, Conn.), and Titilayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.) claimed third place honors with a time of 9:40.20.



Lowry finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.36. Lowry also ran a third best time of 57.57 in the 400 meters. Van Gilder finished sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.68.

Elizabeth Bashir (Colchester, Conn.) and Aubrey Dowding (Warwick, R.I.) finished third and fifth in the shot put with marks of 13.00 and 11.67 meters. Bashir also competed in the discus and reached a seventh best mark of 34.53 meters.



Vanriel was fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.61. Sullivan managed a time of 4:49.70 in the 1,500 meters to finish seventh, while Nicole Strauss (Shelton, Conn.) finished seventh in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:55.65.

Niemczyk finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.63 followed by Carter in eighth with a time of 1:07.66. Kimberly Johnson (Lisbon, Conn.) finished second in the pole vault with a height cleared of 3.35 meters and finished sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.52. Johnson also finished fourth in the high jump with a height cleared of 1.57 meters.

Bonilla and Amanda Arcand (Vernon, Conn.) were fifth and seventh in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with times of 12:12.68 and 13:00.16, respectively.

The Owls will be back in action next weekend for the New England Championships to be held in Boston, Mass. on May 10-12.
