NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Sylvonya Moore (Stockton, Calif.) of the women's basketball team and senior Josh Perry (Naugatuck, Conn.) of the men's indoor track and field team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University/Comcast Athletes of the Month for January.

Moore powered the Owls to a perfect 10-0 month in January. She averaged 15.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.0 steals per contest, including a career-high 30 point effort in a win over Southern New Hampshire. She was named both Northeast-10 Conference and ECAC Player of the Week on the heels of that effort and was a multiple selection to the NE-10 weekly honor roll. Moore also posted one double-double for the Owls, who are currently 19-4 overall and 16-3 in NE-10 play.

Perry had a fine month individually for the nationally ranked Owls' squad. He was selected as the NE-10 Co-Track Athlete of the Week after breaking a 28-year old school record in the mile. Perry posted a time of 4:07.31 at the Metropolitan Championships. Earlier in the month, he was named the league's Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 1,000 meters at UConn Tri-Meet.

For the fourth consecutive year, Comcast is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Month' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Month' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
