CIAC State Open Recap

Boys Team Overview

Wrap-up

Tolland won the Division M race easily with a 169 speed rating that placed it second behind Conard among teams at Divisionals, but with a much better pack compression figure. That pack was the key on Saturday at the Open as the Eagles edged their speed ratings up and their compression figure down by 1 point each with a race that pretty much duplicated their Division race. Tolland's 16 point winning margin was fashioned with frontrunner Alec Sauter on the lead in 3rd place, but maybe the key to the win was Jackson Cayward's shedding of 14 seconds off his Division time to finish 7th overall and 6th in the team scoring and boost his speed ratings by 6 points up to 174. Killian McNamee, Nathan Paolangeli, and Jacob Gerow clinched the title with team places in the 18th to 25th range for a score of 71.

Conard meanwhile had Gavin Sherry as the winner with a 15:38 time,  but the Chieftains were not able to match their 175 Division LL race speed rating. At 170 with a much higher compression than Tolland, Conard fell a little short in what was still a rousing battle. Ridgefield, Danbury, Staples and Xavier finished up in the 3rd through 6th spots.
