More Conference Wrap Ups

SCC- Usually when a team wins a conference championship, there are one or two big point scorers and then their depth puts them over the top.  Shelton boys had just two wins but just kept adding points with five other second place finishes to score 94 points to defending champion Daniel Hand's 74.  This was the Gaels first SCC conference title.

Camerin Gumbs Michael Rodia, Sean Sirisouk, and Nicola Andrade joined together at the beginning of the meet to win the 4 x 100m in 43.73.

David Samedi, who was seeded 8th with a personal record of 20'1 improved on his best jump by a foot sailing to 21'1 to take Shelton's other win.  Then in the high jump, he came in with a personal record of 5'6 and wasn't expected to score.  That didn't matter to the senior, who cleared 6'0 for the first time to take 4th place for a surprise five points.

The big individual winner of the day was Deshaune Poole of Hillhouse who won the 200m in 22.09, the 110HH in 14.73 (14.64 in prelims) and setting an all time SCC record in the 300IH.  The junior was already the state leader in the 400m, 400IH and in the 300IH improved on his state lead with a time of 37.90.

It seems Hillhouse girls are always one of the top teams in the state, but the Academics haven't won a conference title since 2012.  That drought is over as they defeated a strong Hamden team by a score of 103- 92.

The stars of the day for Hillhouse were Ayesha Nelson who won the 100m in 12.38, 300IH in 47.34 and took a silver in the 100HH in 15.55.

The other double winner for the championship team was senior Kristen Washington who swept the jumps, taking the long jump in 17'0.5 and the triple jump landing at 35'4.5.

The Lady Academics clinched their win by taking the 4 x 400m in 3:59.59 which is the 2nd fastest time in the state this season, only four tenths behind Ridgefield.

Hamden's defending State Open champion in the 400m Aisha Gay, showed she still has it.  The senior who has committed to Quinnipiac University, won the 400m and 200m in season bests of 56.37 and 24.88. Then Emma Cayward, Andreya Gardner, and Alysia Joseph teamed up with Gay in the 4 x 100m to help her claim her third gold medal in the the 4 x 100m that ran 50.64.
