Rhode Island Contingent Competing At US Juniors

Former La Salle standout Matt Bouthilette is among several RI athletes at the US Juniors.

The USA Junior Track & Field Championships this weekend (Thursday to Sunday) in Sacramento, Calif., will feature a few familiar faces.

In the 1,500-meter run (Saturday,  5:11 p.m.) former La Salle Academy standout Jack Salisbury is among 13 runners, including recent high school graduate Cooper Teare, who finished second at the Brooks PR Invitational this past weekend and ran 4:00.16 for the mile back in April. Salisbury, who just finished his freshman year at Georgetown University, has a best of 4:04.20 from the adidas Boston Boost Games last year.

Salisbury's high school and collegiate teammate Matt Bouthilette is also out west. Bouthillette will toe the line in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (Saturday, 5:20 p.m.) where he has a best of 9:20.47. Bouthillette is the state outdoor 3,200m (8:51.23) and two-mile (8:53.14) record-holder.

The La Salle connection will continue in the women's events where Harvard's Eliza Rego is listed in the 1,500m (Saturday, 5:01 p.m.), Rego, who earned multiple all-state honors for the Rams, has an all-time best of 4:52.83 for the mile, which she did at the New England Championships in 2016.

In the hammer competition, Courtney Jacobsen, an ex-Toll Gate standout, and former Smithfield great Meagan Malloy will be competing in the women's division. Woonsocket teammates and recent graduates Jared Briere and Dilyn Cote are scheduled for the men's division.
