The meet record holders at the Middletown Invitational reads like a who's who of many of the best athletes to come out of Connecticut over the past 25 years. Many went on to set state records later in the season. Well five records went down on Saturday which bodes well for these athletes later in the season.
Bloomfield girls have shown why they are the best team in the state this year. Usually a championship team might have one or two individual champions and several others who can score point in the big meets to put them over the edge. But the War Hawks were able to win nine events and took down five meet records.
Their day started off with a meet record of 48.17 in the 4 x 100m to win by three seconds. The team of Adia Cavalier, Zaidra James, Cheyenne Brown and Cassidy Palmer continue dominate in Connecticut and are still hold the state lead by over a second. Then, just a few minutes later, University of Virginia bound senior Brittany Jones crushed her own meet record by five feet in the shot put with a throw 47'6.5 which is currently 12th in the country.
Palmer continues to set the pace for Connecticut sprinters and broke 12 seconds for the first time this 
season with a 11.96 which is a top 90 time in the country. Cavalier set a PR and a meet record in the triple jump with a 38'7. This performance is a NBON EE performance and top 40 jump in the country.
Junior Monique Anderson took over the state lead in the high jump with her four inch personal record. Her jump of 5-6 also qualified her New Balance Outdoor National championship sections.
Texas Southern bound Zaidra James broke another meet record with her 44.33 in the 300IH which also qualifies her for NBON Emerging Elite.
Jones and rival Amanda Howe of Southington have been going back and fourth in the discus this season, but Jones retook the state lead with a national qualifying throw of 134'7. According to her coach, Damian Larkins, she has had better throws in practice, but he feels things are coming together for the senior and he expects better performances in the next few weeks.
After Palmer set the meet records in the 4 x 100m and 100m, she came back to set another personal record in the 200m with a 24.95 and took over the state lead in the event.
There was a great match up between Vickie Milledge, of Simsbury and James in the 100HH. Both have gone back and fourth over the past few years, but Milledge got the edge over the third hurdle and went on to set the sixth meet record of the day. Her time of 14.33 broke a 23 year old record by .4 seconds.
On the boys end of the meet, the host Middletown Dragons showed off in front of their fans with some outstanding displays from their sprinters. They started off with a big win in the 4 x 100m with the team of
Nico Cavaliere, Justin McMillian, Garrett Dandridge and DeShaun Bradshaw who ran 42.40. They became only the second team this season to break 43.0 and qualified for nationals in the process
Laurenz Thompkins was the Class L champion in the 55HH this winter and became the first boy to break 15 seconds in the 110HH with his time of 14.93
Middletown's DeAaron Lawrence had a great day winning the high jump with a leap of 6-02.
Cavaliere, McMillian, James, and Dandridge teamed up with Garrett Tyshaun to run the 2nd fastest time in Connecticut this season in the 4 x 400m with their 3:24.02
The Middletown sprinters would have taken more gold medals but three time All American Mark Doyley of
Weaver came to race. Bradshaw chased him all the way to the finish, but could not close on the Weaver senior who ran 10.73- 10.89. In the 200 Dandridge and Bradshaw both set PRs but still couldn't get the Weaver senior who
ran 21.88 to also run his best time of the year so far. Connor Blodgett, Connor of Hall went against the next three fastest long hurdler in the state and came out on top with a PR of 39.58 to take over the state lead in the event.
Daniel Hand came away with three wins behind the efforts of Max Veth who ran 49.46 in the 400m and
Mike Burchell who threw 50-01 in the shot and 143-9 in discus is now the Connecticut leader in both events.
In probably the most surprising performance of the meet, Marzio Mastrianni of Branford went out with the leaders and blasted into the lead after going through the 800m at 2:08. He then extended his lead and won comfortably with a new state leading time of 4:22.14. The sophomore also ran an incredible 1:55 split in the sprint medley relay last week at the O'Grady Relays.
