Rough Outing For Staples At Nike Cross Nationals

Staples High didn't quite get the performance it had anticipated at Saturday's Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon.

The Westport school finished last among the 22 schools with 473 points. Benjamin Seiple led the Wreckers by placing 115th overall with a time of 17:01.80. Rounding out the placements for Staples was William Landowne (129th, 17:11.80), Zakeer Ahmad (140th, 17:20.40), Sunil Green (141st, 17:20.80), Christian Myers (167th, 17:46.70), Brian MacCordy (177th, 18:00.50) and Connor Teran (184th, 18:08.30).

Despite the heartbreaking end to their cross-country season, it should not diminish what the Wreckers have done this season. It was a fall campaign that included their first state title since 1989, a New England crown and a runner-up finish at the NXN-Northeast Regionals on Nov. 26.
