Here's your picks on State Open winners!

The votes are all in from our recent poll where we asked the question -  "Who will win the State Open title?"

Our best response came from the girls' poll where 753 votes were tallied. In a tight battle, particularly the last few days, Immaculate's Angela Saidman collected the most votes with 357. Bridgid Selfors of Mercy was second with 262 votes. As a freshman last year, Saidman captured the Class S crown. She also broke the tape at the SWC Championships and the Nonnewaug Invitational and placed ninth at the State Open. Selfors finished 11th at the championship meet.

In the boys' poll, Staples' Zakeer Ahmad was the No. 1 vote-getter with 32 votes. Brendan Murray of Cheshire was second with 16 votes. The poll generated just 73 votes. Ahmad, who finished 13th at last year's State Open, probably convinced voters based on his breakthrough outdoor season where he placed second in the 3,200-meter run at the State Open with a big-time PR of 9:10.66 and also took third in the mile at the New Balance Nationals with a time of 4:12.53. That was just a shade under his all-time best of 4:12.05, which he did to finish fourth at the Danbury Dream Invitational.
