Cross-Country Season Just Around The Corner

Hard to believe but in less than a month the cross-country season will begin with the first official day of practice scheduled for mid-August.

The state will be minus two of its most prolific runners in state history with the graduation of Hannah DeBlasi (Staples) and Eric van der Els (Brien McMahon), who both earned multiple all-state honors and excelled against some of the best in the nation outside the borders. But be prepared for another exciting campaign on the trails this fall with several returning harriers that are sure to make their mark this season. Per usual, MileSplit CT will preview the X-C season in the coming weeks and be on-site at select meets throughout the fall.

What's on the slate this season? Here's some dates of the some of the meets that are in store in the Nutmeg State. The Windham Invitational at Windham High is scheduled for Sept. 10. On Sept. 17, the Wilton Invitational at Allen Meadows and the Stratton Brook Invitational at Stratton Brooks Park will take place. Other meets this season: Going to the Sun Invitational at Coginchaug (Sept. 21), Sloper Relays at Camp Sloper (Sept. 23), Winding Trails X-C Invitational (Sept. 24), Windham Park Invitational at Windham Park (Oct. 8), CIAC Divisional Championships (Oct. 29) and State Open at Windham Park (Nov. 7). The New England Championships are on Nov. 13 at Ponaganset High in Rhode Island.
