Eric van der Els finished his outstanding high school career in style on Saturday.
The Brien McMahon senior placed sixth overall in the two-mile run at the Brooks PR Invitational. More importantly, van der Els established a state record with his 8:53.49 clocking, His time broke the 2008 mark of 8:56.35, set by Donn Cabral of Glastonbury at the Danbury Dream Invitational. The Brooks PR race, which was won by Ohio's Andrew Jordan of Watkins Memorial in 8:50.12, saw 13 runners dip under nine minutes!
