Fast times assured at FCIAC meets

MileSplit CT will be on site for Saturday's FCIAC Championships, a meet that features several national-caliber athletes.

Staples All-American Hannah DeBalsi will be on the track for the first time since finishing third in the 3,200-meter run at the Arcadia Invitational in early April. DeBalsi, who clocked a nation No. 5 of 10:15 at the high-level California meet, is entered in the two mile where her best is more than a minute faster than her closest rival.

The boys' mile run features three runners that have dipped under 4:20 - Ridgefield's Gabriel Altopp, Wilton's Aaron Breene and Brien McMahon's Eric van der Els. Van der Els, who has an indoor PR of 4:10, will also be competing in the two mile. He's coming off a fourth-place finish in the 3,200m at the Loucks Games where he  was timed in 8:50.53 (US #7). Trumbull's Katelynn Romanchick will also double in the two distance events. Her best bet for gold is the mile, where she is seeded No. 1 with her time of 5:07.69.

Trumbull's Tyler Gleen, a winner in the 800m at Loucks, where he ran a major PR of 1:52.22 (US #29), will toe the line in his specialty. Greenwich's Emily Philippides is the top seed in the girls' 800m, based on her best of 2:13.40.
