Three runners from the Nutmeg State earned berths to the Nationals on Dec. 12 in San DIego, based on their top 10 placements at the regional meet.
For the third straight year, Staples' standout Hannah DeBalsi will be making the trip. The gifted senior finished fourth overall with a time of 17 minutes, 43.7 seconds. In a tight race, Wexford (PA) senior Madeline Davison earned the top prize with a winning time of 17:39.1.
Brien McMahon's Eric van der Els and Ridgefield's Gabriel Altopp will be joining DeBalsi out west. Van der Els placed fifth in the boys' race with a 15:30.5 clocking. Altopp was ninth in 15:34.3. Fort Drum's Noah Affolder of New York won the race in 15:23.9.
