Runners to Watch: Mary Lynch, Wilton High

The high school cross-country season officially begins next week for Connecticut athletes.

During the last few days, MileSplit CT featured the top schools from each class in the Nutmeg State. In the coming weeks, we'll highlight the individuals to keep an eye on for the upcoming 2015 campaign. Can Staples' Hannah DeBlasi finish off her outstanding career with an unprecedented fourth straight state crown? Can Tolland win its third consecutive class title and fifth straight state crown. You be the judge by some of its talented harriers who will be returning to the trails?

We begin our Runners to Watch series with the girls. Thanks to MARY ALBI for writing the bios of our athletes.

MARY LYNCH
Senior, Wilton High

Behind DeBalsi, Lynch established herself as one of the top underclassmen last fall in Fairfield County.

Lynch, who will be a senior this fall at Wilton, finished fourth in the FCIAC Championships (14:54), was third at the Class L state meet (19:43) and 10th at the State Open (19:11). She placed 28th at the New England Championships (19:22).

Lynch focused mainly on the 1,600 this past spring during track season where she placed second at the FCIACs (5:14.45) and third at the Class L (5:18.41). She also ran 11:35.95 in the 3,200 at the State Open.

She’ll spend this fall most likely chasing down DeBalsi, but has shown improvement each year, so don’t expect that to change.
