Report: DeBalsi out of 5K at NBNI, two mile questionable

According to a tweet by Mary Albi of the New Haven Register, Staples High standout Hannah DeBalsi will not be running the 5,000-meter run Friday night at the New Balance Nationals Indoor Championship. Albi reported that DeBalsi has bronchitis and is resting for her two-mile race on Sunday, which is also questionable.

The Staples runner is one of the top seeds in both events. DeBalsi, who is the defending NBNO two-mile titlist, captured the recent New England Championship where she ran a nation No. 1 of 10 minutes, 26.09 seconds. For the 5K distance, DeBalsi was a runner-up at the Foot Locker X-C Nationals in 2013 and was fifth in December's race. She has a best of 17:15.80.
