Windham, Wilton Invites highlight weekend

High school cross-country enthusiasts from Connecticut will get the two-for-one deal this weekend with a pair of invitational meets on Saturday.

Windham High will be the site for its 36th annual Windham Invitational. The meet features freshmen, junior varsity and varsity races. In last year's invite, Farmington's graduating senior Matt Chisholm posted the fastest time for the three-mile course by winning the first varsity race with a time of 16 minutes, 17 seconds.  Griswold grad Alyssa Brehler was the quickest among girls with a quality 18:27 clocking in the Varsity 3 race. In the Varsity 1race, Rham grad Chrissy Bendzinski was timed in 18:35 for the victory. Junior Caitlin Swamson and senior Courtney Akerley of defending state titlists Tolland, were third and fourth, respectively, with times of 19:06 and 19:07 Perhaps a preview of what it would do a few months later at the CIAC Open Championship, Tolland held off a solid Simsbury squad for the team crowm with a 48-58 win. MileSplit will be on site for this event!

Allen Meadow's will also be a busy place this Saturday with 26th annual Wilton Invitational. In the 2013 meet,  senior Spencer Brown and and Sarah Healy of Wilton won the boys' and girls' events. Brown covered the 3.1-mile course in 16:09 and Healy ran her 2.5-mile distance in 15:12. MileSplit will have coverage of this event, too!
