Hello, Connecticut!!!

(Darien junior Alex Ostberg en route to his victory in the 5,000-meter run at the New Balance National Outdoor Championships this past June)

First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Steve Mazzone and starting this cross-country season I will be the new webmaster of MileSplit Connecticut. I am excited about this newest endeavor and giving your state the proper exposure it deserves.

Connecticut is full of talented athletes that have made quite an impact on the regional and national spectrum. Two of those athletes that come to mind are recent New Balance Outdoor National champions - Staples High sophomore Hannah DeBalsi (two mile) and Darien junior Alex Ostberg (5K). But they're not the only ones that deserve some recognition and that's where I come in.

My plans is to make more people aware of the great things that are happening in the Nutmeg State with increased meet coverage, feature stories, Athlete Q & A’s, plenty of photos and videos and much more. If you’re familiar with MileSplit then you also know all about its outstanding features, including its unmatched data base that provides a never-ending summary of each athlete’s performances and allows coaches and athletes the ability to create virtual meets, one-on-one matchups and team and individual rankings.

To give Connecticut its due, more than one individual is needed so I am asking for your help. Right now I am looking for anyone who is interested in assisting us with our coverage. Photos (jpeg format) and/or short or extended blurbs are always welcome from any invitational or league meets. To get it on the site, it’s simple. If you send it, it will get it on. My email is smazzone5@gmail.com.

In addition to myself, I have a few writers that will assist me with coverage as well as a photographer. But I am always looking for more. For in-depth coverage, I can offer pay for your service, whether it’s writing, photography or video-taping. I can also offer internships for any aspiring high school writers or photographers out there. Just send me an email and let me know.

Again, my goal is to give Connecticut the best possible coverage I can afford. Your help would be greatly appreciated and would be instrumental in the success of the site.
